Over the years, I’ve worn many hats, from precision engineering and machine building to managing production facilities and ultimately finding my home in the heating controls industry. Each step along the way has shaped my expertise and brought me to where I am today—a professional dedicated to helping customers navigate and understand heating and plumbing products with confidence.
The Early Years: Engineer and Diamond Tool Maker
My career began in the intricate world of precision engineering, where I honed my skills as a diamond tool maker. This work required attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset, both of which have become the foundation of everything I do. From creating finely tuned tools to working on complex mechanical systems, I gained a deep appreciation for the craft of engineering.
Design and Innovation: 3D CAD and Machine Building
After mastering the technical side of engineering, I moved into 3D CAD design and became the Production Manager at a bespoke machine-building factory. This role was an incredible opportunity to combine creativity with hands-on technical expertise.
Not only did I design specialised machinery, but I also travelled the world to sell, install, and service these custom-built systems. It was a role that demanded versatility—one day I’d be in the design office, and the next I’d be on-site halfway across the globe, ensuring everything worked perfectly for our clients. This international experience taught me the importance of adaptability and understanding the unique needs of every customer.
Managing a 24/7 Production Facility
Next, I took on the role of Production Manager at a large-scale 24/7 production facility, where we produced metal profiles using cutting-edge techniques like laser, plasma, flame, and water jet cutting. This was a high-pressure environment where I not only managed the production line but also maintained and repaired the machinery when needed.
My hands-on approach extended to using equipment like lathes and mills myself to ensure production stayed on track. This role reinforced my ability to lead teams, troubleshoot complex systems, and remain calm under pressure—all essential skills I carry with me to this day.
Transitioning to Heating Controls
With a strong background in electro-mechanical systems and a knack for problem-solving, moving into the heating controls industry felt like a natural next step. For over 18 years, I thrived in roles such as Technical Manager, where I oversaw a wide range of responsibilities, including:
- Managing customer support.
- Creating technical documentation.
- Overseeing product design and quality control.
- Capturing high-quality product photography.
One of my proudest achievements was developing a database-driven system that streamlined technical support, giving staff and customers instant access to essential information. This innovation not only improved efficiency but also underscored my passion for making complex systems accessible and user-friendly.
