Description
Tower Automatic Bypass Valve – ABBV1
The Tower ABBV1 Automatic Bypass Valve is designed for use in central heating systems where a boiler bypass is required, particularly in installations fitted with thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs). It plays a critical role in maintaining correct system operation by ensuring constant water flow and supporting pump overrun functionality once zone valves have closed.
As TRVs begin to close in response to rising room temperatures, system resistance increases. The ABBV1 automatically responds to these changes by opening to its preset differential pressure, allowing additional flow to bypass between the flow and return. This action helps maintain a stable system pressure, ensuring that the boiler continues to receive the minimum flow rate required to operate safely and efficiently.
By regulating differential pressure within an adjustable range of 0.1 to 0.6 bar, the ABBV1 reduces unwanted system noise often caused by TRVs or motorised valves closing. This controlled pressure relief also helps to minimise wear on the pump impeller and protect the boiler heat exchanger, contributing to improved system longevity and quieter operation.
The valve is capable of handling a high flow rate of up to 50 litres per minute, making it suitable for a wide range of domestic heating systems. Supplied with 22mm compression fittings, it integrates easily into existing pipework. Installation should be carried out in a bypass loop between the flow and return after the pump, ensuring that the flow direction follows the arrow marked on the valve body.
System pressure is set by rotating the adjustment head until the desired setting number is visible. Once the correct differential pressure has been selected, the setting can be securely locked in place using the adjuster screw, preventing accidental changes and ensuring consistent performance. Final settings should always be selected in line with boiler manufacturer guidance and system design pressure/flow requirements.
The Tower ABBV1 Automatic Bypass Valve provides reliable pressure control, quieter system operation, and essential protection for pumps and boilers, making it an important component in modern heating systems using TRVs and zone valves.
