Tower Circular Flue Terminal Guards
The Tower Circular Flue Terminal Guards are designed to provide essential protection for flue terminals installed in accessible locations, ensuring compliance with BS 5440-1:2008 (Section 9.2.1) and UK Building Regulations. These guards are required wherever there is a risk of individuals coming into contact with a flue terminal, helping to prevent injury while allowing the safe discharge of combustion products.
In accordance with BS 5440-1:2008, a protective guard must be fitted when a flue terminal is positioned less than 2.1 metres above ground level, a balcony, or a flat roof that is accessible to people. For plume management installations, a guard is also required where the air inlet is below 2.0 metres in these accessible locations. Once installed, the guard must maintain a minimum clearance of 50mm from all parts of the flue terminal.
Tower terminal guards are available in a range of materials and finishes to suit different boiler types and environmental conditions. Zinc and passivated plated guards are available for non-condensing applications but are not suitable for condensing boilers, as acidic condensate can cause corrosion over time. For condensing boiler installations, plastic-coated polyethylene guards are recommended, offering improved resistance to corrosion, while stainless steel guards provide the highest level of durability and are suitable for condensing and non-condensing boilers, as well as gas, oil, and solid fuel systems.
High-level variants are available where additional protection is required, including models with mesh infill plates to enhance safety in exposed or frequently accessed locations.
